American Eskimo

The American Eskimo is definitely one of the most charming and positive dog breeds in nowadays. These little, white, fluffy dogs are an excellent pet for people with active lifestyle as well as for these that prefer to stay at home and cuddle with their small and barking companion. They are great with older children but cannot make a bond with other pet. This dog can bring a smile and warmth to everyone who needs it.

A lovely companion, the American Eskimo is a great pet not only because of its incredibly easy going character and well-behaved attitude, but also because it is easy to train as a puppy.
One of the dog’s best characteristics is also one of its worst. They are great guardians and protectors and are always able to enter a physical confrontation with whatever or whoever they consider a danger to their home or owners. They are not warm towards newcomers in either a human or an animal form and should always be kept under control and watched over when there are guests in the house including children. Without observing them carefully and being able to pull them away when they jump at your guests, you’re going to have a bad time.

The representatives of this breed are very active and some might even be what some people call overly energetic. As most individuals would need regular walks and some games, if you’re owning an overly energetic one you will need to give it more than the usual – runs and a lot of reasons to get tired. In case this puppy does not tire enough, it will keep on playing at home and this can lead to what you might consider aggression or to damage to the items such as furniture inside of the house.
The American Eskimo has an enchanting fur that is soft, beautiful and very charming. Because of these positive sides is it being loved by many. This is, however, one of these situations where what you see is what you get. This means that a lot of regular grooming is needed including combing it at least twice a week, often baths and even more combing during the shedding months. The long and fluffy coat can also bring a lot of issues for people with allergies and also to those of you who don’t like to spend half a day cleaning and brushing off fur from the furniture and carpets.

Although this breed is prone to sometimes develop CHD, PRA as well as patellar luxation, these are not an often occurrence. Diabetes is also a probability, but it can easily be kept under control if the illness has been caught early by your veterinarian. Naturally and as with any animal, regular checks at the doctor are needed. This being said, the usual life expectancy of these dogs is from 12 to 17 years of age and they can be a friend for almost a lifetime.
The American Eskimo is beloved by people of all ages and habits – from 40-year-old white collars who have little time to play with them, but want to have company for the morning jogs to young women who want to have a very beautiful and active companion with whom they can play and have fun during the entire day.
